SFX:              Music. Inside of a Cockpit ambience.

PERCY:         Flight Lieutenant Percy here. You’ve found the story about my favourite aircraft - the Spitfire.

I’d say the Spitfire is one of the most famous of all aircrafts. They played a huge part in helping the RAF win the Battle of Britain during WW2.

The Spitfire is small, but mighty! Like myself.

Made of metal - smooth and strong. Curved wings to glide effortlessly through the clouds. A propellor on it’s nose to push onwards and upwards. Its wings and tail proudly stamped with the blue, white and red rings of the Royal Air Force. Imagine sitting in the cockpit of the Spitfire with the runway ahead of you.

It’s time to take flight!

SFX:              Take off of a Spitfire. Soars through the sky.

The engine roars to life as the mighty Spitfire prepares for take-off. You feel the rumble from your head to your toes. The propellor spins at such a speed it becomes invisible! The wings catch the sunlight as it lifts off the ground and up into the sky. You leave the ground far behind, as the Spitfire flies faster and faster. It moves through the air like an eagle. Soaring, swooping, diving, ducking. Even turning upside down in a full circle - a loop the loop! It’s powerful and agile. Just like the eagle, it rules the sky! From the cockpit you see the endless horizon stretch out ahead of you ….. But wait a minute. What’s that in the distance behind you?

SFX:               Approaching Aircraft. Wind noises.

The sound of another engine can be heard amongst the clouds. The shape gets closer and clearer as it gains on your tail. Another aircraft, but this one does not have the rings of the Royal Air Force…

It’s a Messerschmitt, a German plane and the sworn enemy of the Spitfire! The Messerchmitt is fast and catches up on the Spitfire. But the Spitfire is faster! It speeds on ahead before swooping round on it’s enemy. It really is an eagle now - full of power as it dances through the sky dodging danger effortlessly, with claws at the ready to defend itself. It leads the Messerchmitt on a daredevil chase through the skies. You have to think quickly and always be two steps ahead. It’s exciting and scary and the speed of the Spitfire takes your breath away!

SFX:                Aircraft sounds fade to Eagle Soundscape.

The Messerchmitt is no match for the Spitfire. You watch as the Messerchmitt finally turns and disappears - it can’t keep up any longer. Victory! And just in time, as an alarm tells you fuel is low. It’s time to land!

SFX:               Alarm. Back to Inside Cockpit. Landing of aircraft.

You’re an expert now. You take the controls and guide the Spitfire down through the clouds. The ground appears again and you lower down with a bump as the wheels touch ground. You hear the screech of the brakes and the whirr of the propellor as it slows down and at last you stop.

SFX:               Engine Stops. Music.

Oh My! Excellently done. What a flight. There’s nothing like the thrill of a Spitfire. Not to mention a dog-fight!

ANTIS:           Hey! Did you somebody say dog?

PERCY:          Ah, Antis, hello. Yes, a dog-fight was the name given to a battle between two fighter aircrafts like the Spitfire and the Messerchmitt.

ANTIS:           Ooh, I love a Spitfire! They’re fast, like me. I bet you can’t catch me, Percy! Wooo…..

PERCY:          (sighs) Oh, Antis.

SFX:               Fade All.
